Explaining the Animated Explainer Video

Animated explainer videos are an exciting way to reach new audiences and to market your products and services. These videos can be used to explain complicated ideas in a fun and entertaining way. They also help to train staff internally and update them about new procedures.

The animated video format allows for the use of music and visual movement, providing a more entertaining way to convey your message than using written words.  They are also versatile and can be placed on your website, shared on emails and even used in presentations.

Animated explainer videos have the most impact when they are short, succinct and convey only the most important information. To get to this point a production process should be followed.

This first part involves a consultation with the client to find out what they want to communicate. Next comes the script writing which involves shaping the story and pruning the content. 70-75 words normally equals around 30 seconds which is a good amount of time to keep the audience’s attention.

Sourcing a voice over artist often a professional actor to read out and record the script usually comes next. The visuals in the video can then be timed with this recording.

Next comes the storyboarding which communicates to the client the visual style of the video in still images.

The most time consuming part of process comes next which involves animating the video. This is often done using After effects, Photoshop and Animate CC. It’s important to iron out as much of the decision making process as possible before this process begins because changing the animation direction can be time consuming and expensive.  It can also effect how well the final outcome communicates if diverges too far away from the original script.

Last but not least is the musical score. If the budget is limited this can be created with license free music. If the client is looking for an original score it’s definitely best to hire a musician.

The video can now be rendered out and is ready to face the world! This may sound like a long and expensive process but it’s worthwhile if it engages potential customers. Also, depending on the clients needs it can be kept to a budget.

A great logo design is unique mark highlighting an important feature of your business that can positively effect your overall visual branding. It’s also something that you should identify with and cherish since you’ll see it everyday at work. The designers role is to understand your business and discuss with you to find out what’s at the core so they can visualise any literal or metaphorical meanings.

As a designer it can be challenging boiling these abstract ideas and meanings into a small visually appealing design that communicates in B&W, colour and reverse colour. The best thing you can do as a client is find other logo designs that you like and have a good idea of what you want your business to convey to your customers. This way the designer can better understand your thought process and style preferences and use their skill to meet you halfway and create an original logo that looks great and resonates with you personally.
